Its new

Shortly after I released the Spiked Punch #4 book I stopped taking photographs. But now I see I've just got to keep doing what I do and not worry about what other people are doing. So I'm back - forcibly estranged from the darkroom for a while now so I've had to suck it all up, push it down very deep and buy a digital SLR. Now, if there was any way to keep shooting b&w trust me I would not be going down this path but the darkroom is out of action and I have to keep taking photographs (note: both myself and David have experimented with every colour lab in Brisbane and have not yet found one which doesn't butcher our prints - thus shooting colour film is out too). Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy about this at all.

First run this morning - testing its jazz:

So I say goodbye to both the darkroom for a while and goodbye to the library (which is being pulled down to renovate the room)...

The Ed and Deanna Templeton exhibitions in Sydney were rad. Check out Garry Trinh's coverage of the ACP one, including the art wankers on the far left of the second shot. Your Logo Here and Be Passers By.

Touch My Stuff

To my two loyal readers whom might not have seen my bulletin (except David has already written so I know he has, so I guess this is for Alex)... I've started a new website/bloggy type thing called Touch My Stuff. Visit it here.

Just to show that Spiked Punch Blog isn't going to stuffer from my spreading out over the internet, here's a few pics from a very eventful New Years Eve.

This was a random guy talking to us at the bus stop. I was in fine form and asking everyone if I could take their photograph.

For some reason, he was talking to us and not these two ladies. They were pretty good sports. Thanks for letting me take your picture. Sorry I'm using it on the internet.

The very lovely Marlin.

New friend Nicole (whom I knew before, just didn't really know). She had lights in her hair.

It was obviously a hat/hair party so out came the Converge helmet.

Is a house a house if it doesn't have walls?

I'm obsessed with the cockatoos, rosellas and lorikeets which flock around my neighbourhood. This guy was horsing around on the powerlines, swinging upside down and screeching so loud it echoed through the streets.

In stark contrast to my bird addiction. Here is the view I get every morning as I leave the house for work. I work a 40 hour week for this lifestyle.

At dinner with some good friends, one a photog, we were messing around with our cameras. Not sure how this happened.

Ang says she always has her eyes half closed in photos. She's wide eyed in this shot but Dave takes up the stoned look.

A bad shot but it was amazing at the time. Ang's phone kept on getting mysterious blank texts from a number she didn't know. The count below was somewhere in the 30's but she eventually got 47 blank texts. All came in within the course of two minutes.

A "house" in Windsor.

Christmas lunch.
This shot is for David. He made this for me the other night and I told him I'd steal it. 48 hours later the idea/design was stolen.

Close up of the amazing rosettes which Bec and Sak made for Christmas lunch. Underneath is a spinach and ricotta pie.

Incidents or harmless fun?

I've tried - unsuccessfully - a few times to post this week but uploading images has been painfully slow. So here are but a couple to recap the week.

First there was the Rachna shoe incident. Ebay is a beast.

Then there was the Frankie visit.

Then there was the tooth incident.

Then the surfing Christmas party (which surprisingly did not result in another tooth incident).

And the aftermath.

And finally, the freaked out cat (wet hair moment).

Art, Art, Fires, Cats

I'll work backwards over the last two weeks. I normally have preference to just give you pictures and you can make up the why's how's and where's but just for something completely out there, I'm going to fill in the blanks.

Ad and I went to the new Gallery of Modern Art today and met this joker along the way. He promised us dinner. I've now put that promise in a public forum so he cannot reneg. GOMA was pretty sweet - it launched with the Asia Pacific Triennial, which is always incredible. We walked for hours, my legs hurt so much, and we still only saw a fraction of the art. I watched a lot of Jackie Chan there though. Then we walked to the city to see Kate and get my Lawrence Arms tickets but they'd sold out. So I've missed them twice now. Not happy. Brisbane NEVER sells out shows. I can only guess that its payback for a flawless day - every light was green for us, the train went past (and traffic stopped) so we had a clear run across the road, we turned up at the train station and the train was there, the violent guy on the train punched someone else in the face and not us. Perfect day.

Sunday night. Illi cat jumps onto the bed all freaked out. Someone up the road is yelling out and knocking on people's door. Fire engines and cops turn up and park all over our lawn. I look out the window to this:

Then I look out the back window and see this.

Neighbour's back shed completely engulfed. Aparently someone heard a loud pop at 10pm but it didn't get out of control until 2am (when the firey's arrived). Needless to say Ches cat freaked out and ran away. He missed breakfast and dinner and we spent hours roaming the streets calling for him. I met some freaky people in my street. The girl who tried to console me by telling me that her cat went missing too - but then they found him dead on the side of the road so he wasn't missing all that long really. The lady who proudly told me about her pride and joy devonshire rex but that she'd never actually patted her in the twelve years she'd had her because she was totally allergic. I bought the girl who's cat died a box of chocolates with a note saying I was sorry her cat died and I was sorry that my cat beat up her cat so much. The next day she knocked on my door to sell me raffle tickets but I couldn't get out of her what they were for. I think I got played.

Okay, kinda out of order. That was Sunday/Monday and on Monday I had to hang my exhibition but the cat was missing and I didn't want to leave the house. But heartlessly I did and got the exhibition hung and went back home to see Ches cat slaunter up like nothing had happened. So then on Wednesday night we had our exhibition opening. It was great - all these people from my work turned up and I felt all loved for a bit. We had a group photo of the "artists". Adam (eyes closed), Aaron (being a bear), Alex (giving finger), me (always up for giving the finger in photographs) and Eilleen (also eyes closed). Front artists look sleepy, back artists all aggressive. I think the head in the foreground is Canadian Dave but I thought his hair was darker than that. So, no ideas really.

Last blog I had a photo of Chris bearing some skin. He was having a "before" moment. Here is the "after". He has one on each side.

Speaking on ink, this is Mit - who has created the majority of my tattoos - appreciating his fine work on Ad. I cannot believe how gnarly and angry Ad's leg looked. It was red raw. It must be such a weird job spending all day inflicting pain who are paying you to do it. Mit seems to like it fine enough.

Susie. About five shots in (I was pretending to be all incognito) getting over my photo taking. This is from the exhibition the previous week. Canadian Dave (amongst other fine people such as Susie and Carmela) were showing their painted postboxes. Art was great, company was great. My night was punctuated by spilling beer and completely putting my foot in my mouth (a great story, will respect my peers and not tell though).

Canadian Dave. The elusive artist.

And again. He's featuring quite highly on my blog this week.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the exhibition and everyone who put up with my telling and retelling the story of my cat going missing for less than 24hours.

Party Hardy and New Website

I've just finished overhauling the Spiked Punch Pictures website and its now live! I found a really sweet gallery viewer and its pretty sweet to navigate around PLUS I don't need to archive every time I want to add a new image. So I might get on top of this update stuff after all.

Lots of celebrations and shows this week. Opening of the Ladyfest exhibition, Erase Errata played for Ladyfest and Turnpike played at Jugglers. Oh, and a kick ass storm! A chance to take some snaps of my faves...

Goldie is Dead

Nothing quite so random as walking back after drinks with friends and seeing a splattered goldfish on the pavement. Was goldie dead before being ousted from the apartment window? Was goldie shattered on impact? Was the cat I saw in the exact spot on my way to drinks somehow involved in this crime?

In other news. More random shit...
